Rock & Soil Pinot Noir and the Willamette Valley soils, the perfect fit. Now add some rock-n-roll.

Willamette Valley soils are a diverse combination of volcanic, marine, alluvial, colluvial, and windblown sediments, deposits over millions of years through a spectrum of depositional processes and events.

Some of the soil types such as the Jory, a volcanic parent material, the Willakenzie, an ancient marine sequence, and Loess that mantles the landscape create a unique collection of soil types contributing to the region's fertile agricultural land.

Specifically, these soils are widely known for their ability to create uniquely high-quality grapes for producing world-class Pinot Noir.

Pete's Mountain Vineyard in West Linn, Oregon is neatly nestled in the prime location of these soils which result in some of the most amazing Pinot Noir in the world.   In fact, it's so tied to nature, that Mike and Kristi Thayer of Pete's Mountain Vineyard along with brother and business partner, Tommy Thayer of KISS have named it, "Rock & Soil Pinot Noir".

And to accommodate those white wine loving connoisseurs, they also crafted "Rock & Soil Chardonnay".  "Five Stars Exquisite!"

These wines are featured at The Geology of Rock-n-Roll event on Oct 10 at Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Pittsburgh Professionalism

What a great group of professionals with an already-established technical mastery of reading the story the sediments are telling.  Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. has 1000+ employees scattered across the United States but I'm convinced the team I worked with in Pennsylvania is a group of shining stars (ie. super stars and rock stars!)

The team demonstrates synergy with how they work together through the group tutorials and exercises.  Their collective problem-solving approach is inspiring to me and it was confirmed during the group testing for soil classification (I believe they scored perfect which might be the only time that ever happened!)  Well done!

Thank you to the CEC, Inc. management and the team of professionals for hosting me during the 6.5-hour training event.   Your operation, your facility, and your energy is five stars!

Ground Water Investigative Techniques and Technologies Training in Pittsburgh

Two days of training on the topic of ground water investigative techniques and technologies is a ground breaking and earth shattering topic when it comes to bedrock.

Each year, new emerging technologies surface in our environmental and engineering industry.  And these new technologies present opportunities for new services, new specializations, and new skills.

The participants for this recent training event in Pittsburgh were exceptionally sharp.  It might be their past experiences, their general project locations, or their ambition to learn and excel, but no matter what it is, the instructors and I were aware of the high level of expertise in the room.

MidwestGeo would like to thank our friends at Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. for sharing their training room for this course.  Specific thanks goes to Sean Paulsen, Sue Nagel, and Sandra Villao.  You Rock!

On behalf of Maureen Muldoon and David Hart, thank you to the participants for sharing your stories, engaging in discussions, and coming forth to lead conversations about your Conceptual Site Models.  We learned from you too.
